Jillienne Bowers, MM

Adjunct Instructor


Violinist Jillienne Bowers began her musical studies at the age of eight in her native town of Seal Beach, California. After two years at Chapman University in Orange County, California, she ventured to the east coast to continue her studies. Jillienne received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of John’s Hopkins University and pursued graduate studies earning her Master of Music degree from the University of Boston. During this time, she studied with Dr.David Margetts, Charles Libove, Raphael Druian, Stuart Canin, and Camilla Wicks. She was also fortunate to work under Alexander Schneider in the New York String Orchestra for two years allowing her to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York and the National Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C. She has given solo performances in California, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Taiwan, Hong Kong, England, and Germany.

While enjoying teaching all ages, she has served on the faculty as adjunct violin teacher for several colleges and universities. Jillienne began her Suzuki pedagogy training fifteen years ago in Snowmass, Colorado, with Joanne Bath. She continued in subsequent years with Suzuki trainers, Nancy Lokken, Ronda Cole, Alice-Joy Lewis, Wendy Azrak, Linda Stieg and Master Suzuki teacher, John Kendall. She teaches a private studio of eighteen violin students in her home with a few of those students pursuing active careers in the field of music. In addition to her private studio, she has currently been hired to run the string department at Lenawee Christian Schools.

As a performer, Jillienne has had a full time position in the first violin section of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra for the past 18 years under the direction of Stephan Sanderling. From a different perspective, Jillienne has been/is a Suzuki parent for her three boys, Christopher a violist, Colin, who plays the violin, and Charles, who plays the cello. She resides in Adrian, MI, with her husband, Bryan, her three boys, Christopher, Colin, Charlie, and her English Labradors, Suki and Kiira. In her spare time, Jillienne loves spending time outdoors in her garden, jogging, hiking in Michigan, walking her dogs, swimming, and reading.
