The Saints Marching Band is one of the newest and most exciting traditions on Siena's campus. Students have the opportunity to play at all home football games. The Saints Marching Band provides halftime entertainment with a wide variety of shows each season. The Saints Marching Band also plays a range of music in the stands from school spirit songs to the latest and greatest tunes off the radio.
All students who audition are eligible for band scholarships, regardless of major!
The SHU Concert Band is the premiere instrumental ensemble at Siena Heights University. The Concert Band tackles challenging repertoire each semester consisting selections from standard repertoire to brand new compositions. Membership is open to any in the Siena community, but interested musicians should contact Dan Kesterke for more information.
The SHU Concert Band starts rehearsing after the football season ends and puts on a minimum of three concerts during the school year. Students also participate in a limited amount of basketball games to support the SHU men's and women's basketball teams.
The SHU Percussion Ensemble is under the direction of Bridget Olenik. They rehearse and perform every Winter semester. Since their inception, they have performed a wide variety of repertoire ranging from classical chamber music to music inspired by STOMP. Frequently received with great enthusiasm, the SHU Percussion Ensemble is one of the highlights of the Spring concerts.
The SHU Jazz Band plays a variety of pieces in its repertoire ranging from big band standards to modern charts. The Jazz Band performs regularly throughout the semester and is made up both music majors and non-music majors alike. Interested students need to speak with Dan Kesterke if they would like to participate for more information.
University Chorale is the collegiate large vocal ensemble at Siena Heights University. The chorale is responsible for presenting concerts both on and off campus. This organization is open to both music and non-music majors with any previous vocal experience. University Chorale will perform both sacred and secular vocal repertoire from a variety of musical genres. Students will improve their knowledge of current and historical literature, music theory and notation, sight-singing and ear-training, proper rehearsal techniques and overall ensemble performance. No audition necessary.
Chamber Singers is a select vocal ensemble specializing in vocal chamber music at Siena Heights University. In addition to regular concerts, Chamber Singers serve the needs of administration by performing at University and community events, both on and off campus. The Chamber Singers may also occasionally perform at local and regional school events for educational and recruitment purposes, as well as national and international performance tours. Chamber Singers perform music from a wide variety of literature, with special emphasis being given to a cappella music predominantly from the Renaissance period. Participation in University Chorale is also required.
For over 25 years, the SHU Youth Symphony has served the Lenawee County, Ann Arbor, Jackson, and Toledo areas providing an opportunities for musicians of all ages to come together and make music. From Dmitri Shostakovich to John Williams, the Youth Symphony plays a wide variety of entertaining and challenging repertoire. The symphony performs one concert at the end of each semester.
